Sunset Memorial Park, Hillside Cemetery, and George Washington Memorial Park were sold early in 2014 to a large nationwide conglomerate by the name of StoneMor Partners L.P. StoneMor has also made an arrangement with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to manage 13 Catholic Cemeteries in the five-county Philadelphia region, for which StoneMor has paid the Archdiocese an initial payment of $53 million as well as agreeing to pay $36 million in future annual rent payments. As a business StoneMor is able to generate the money to buy these cemeteries, and make the payments to the Archdiocese, from only one source – the public who either owns or is buying space or merchandise at any of their cemeteries.
If you currently own space at any of these cemeteries, please note – YOU WILL BE CONTACTED BY SALESPEOPLE FROM STONEMOR REPRESENTING YOUR CEMETERY. Understand that you are NOT required to talk to their sales representative or buy any services or merchandise from them. If you speak with the sales representative of ANY cemetery, BE CAREFUL AND COMPARE PRICES. If you purchase a casket and a concrete vault from the salespeople at the cemetery you could be paying THOUSANDS of dollars more than the same merchandise would cost from Wetzel and Son, or from many other local, family-owned funeral homes. Be cautious with ANY contact that you may have with anyone representing these cemeteries and QUESTION EVERYTHING. If you should hear from them and you have any questions or concerns about what they tell you, please give us a call. We are always here to help.
