Donald Hendrickson of Hatboro, Pennsylvania died Friday, August 25, 2017 at Abington Hospital Jefferson Health. He was 79 years old. Don was born, the youngest of 8 children, September 21, 1937 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late Adolf Hendrickson and the late Anna Hendrickson (nee - Wehrman). He is the beloved husband of the late Barbara Hendrickson; father of Judi Wales and her husband Andrew, Kristin Alexander and her husband Tom, and Jonathan Hendrickson and his wife Danielle; grandfather of Stephen Jacobus, Kyle Wales, Kristin Heath, Katiejane Wales, Sam and Rebecca Alexander, and Daniel, Olivia, and Gabriel Hendrickson; great grandfather of Carter Jacobus.

Don was born, raised, and educated in South Philadelphia where he graduated from the Edward W. Bok Technical High School in 1956. He met Barbara Busch at school and married her in 1958 at the former Immanuel Lutheran Church at 4th and Carpenter. They stayed in South Philadelphia and raised their family in the neighborhood. In 2007 Don and Barbara “retired” to Roxborough. Don has lived at Gloria Dei Farms in Hatboro for the last year.

Don was employed at the Community College of Philadelphia until his retirement as Shipping Supervisor in 2004 after 33 years of service. He was active in the various churches he attended over the years including: St. John the Evangelist, Gloria Dei “Old Swedes’,” and St. Timothy’s in Roxborough. He enjoyed painting, singing, and other arts, as well as teaching art classes. Don was an avid gardener in his younger years. He liked volunteering at Journey’s Way senior center in Roxborough.

Don was a devoted “poppy” to his grand and great grandchildren. He frequently volunteered to assist at their schools and loved participating in their lives. In his later years Don became an accomplished cook and loved feeding people homemade meals. He was particularly proud of his Norwegian heritage.

Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Thursday, August 31, 2017 from 9:30 A.M. and funeral service at 10:30 A.M. at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 2119 Old Welsh Road, Abington, PA 19001. His graveside service followed at Fernwood Cemetery, 6501 Baltimore Avenue, Lansdowne, PA 19050.

Religious services were conducted by Rev. Winston Smith, rector of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 2119 Old Welsh Road, Abington, PA 19001.
