After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for 4 years on the U.S.S. Tutuila (a repair ship stationed in Norfolk,VA) as an Electrician's Mate.

He married Ruth on June 27, 1953. They lived in Folcroft, PA where Bill served as a part-time policeman, graduating from the police academy at the top of his class. The family moved to Syracuse, N.Y. in 1968 where he was Security Manager for a chain of stores, The Family Bargain Centers. In 1972 they returned to Delaware Co., living in Norwood, PA when he became Security Manager for Gimbels Department Store in Philadelphia, PA.

He decided to change professions and became the Maintenance Manager for Walber's On The Delaware (a motel, restaurant) until he retired. While there he built a large indoor bar, a marina to tie up small boats, and a large outdoor bar by their pool, and handled most electrical, plumbing and grounds maintenance.

In 2010 they moved to Lansdale, PA to be nearer their sons’ families. Most recently he has been in skilled nursing at Ambler Extended Care where the V.A. contracts to care for Veterans.
